Its Perspectives
The financial sector
in Nepal in recent years has grown rapidly with
large number of banks, insurance companies and
financial cooperatives. Nepal has become a
member of World Trade Organization (WTO) and as
per its requirements; the doors for establishing
international financial institutions (banks,
insurance companies etc) in this country will be
opened in 2010 AD. This perspective of growth in
this sector is projected to require a large
number of skilled and professional manpower for
these institutions.
Kathmandu University in tune with its
well-establish policy of giving permission to
start only need-based academic program allowed
National College for conducting yet
another professional academic program tailored
for financial sector. This four-year
eight-semester Bachelor in Development Finance (BDFin)
has started in August 2006 with an intake of 30
students. This program has been shaped in an
interdisciplinary frame incorporating concepts
and skills from economics, development, finance,
banking, insurance, cooperatives, marketing,
management etc. After completion of this study,
the graduates will be competent to be absorbed
in financial institutions as skilled, efficient
and professional manpower. |

Scholarships
To encourage meritorious students, the college
offers partial scholarship annually to each
study program. One student will be offered full
scholarship nominated by Kathmandu University.
Part from these, the college tries to arrange
financial help for its students through various
GO’s, I/NGOs for conducting research.

Methodology
Basic methodology adopted for teaching and

For effectively using this teaching methodology,
the college uses the services of qualified,
experienced and dedicated faculty members who
come from both academic and different financial
institutions. Constant seminars, dialogues and
interaction with key resource person from
respective areas could help students develop
deeper understanding and prepare them to face
future challenges in the area of development.
Field visits in many areas are indispensable
parts of the teaching. Realizing the necessity
of field visits
for on-the-spot study to materializing
the theoretical knowledge, students are taken to
many rural areas, or areas which become highly
relevant to their subject matter, in different
parts of Nepal in each semester.
