Introduction
National College, Centre for Development
Studies, was
established in 1999 by a group of experienced
and dedicated academicians for providing quality
and need based education in a highly congenial
academic environment. The broad objective of the
college is to prepare and mould students capable
of catering to the future manpower needs of the
country.
Right from the inception, National College has
been striving for academic excellence towards
overall personality development of students.
With the growing needs for competent
professionals in the country, CeDS has been
offering need based academic programs such as,
Bachelor Development Studies (BDevS), Bachelor
in Development Finance (BDFin) of Kathmandu
University (KU) and higher secondary level
programs in science, management and humanities
by college.
Besides these, CeDS has separate Research and
Development wing for conducting research and
training activities and Center for Excellence
for imparting vocational training packages. The
motto of the CeDS is to inculcate knowledge to
the students through holistic approach of
teaching, training and research.

Teaching Approach
National College gives special attention to
rigorous teaching, training and research for
producing competent mid-level practitioners and
students interested in higher studies. The
program focuses on theoretical interactions
along with concerned development processes and
practices. Contemporary issues and concerns are
discussed on global and comparative perspective.
Constant seminars, dialogue and interaction with
key resource person from respective areas could
help students develop deeper understanding and
prepare them to face future challenges in the
area of development. Field visits in many areas
are indispensable parts of the teaching.
Realizing the necessity of field for on-the-spot
study to materializing the theoretical
knowledge, students are taken to many rural
areas in different parts of Nepal in each
semester.

Research
Development and Training
Center for Development Studies (CeDS), is
established as and integral part of National
College, and has placed lots of effort for
undertaking regular research and training
activities for needy students. Research and
Development wing under CeDS has been offering
professional training packages etc. for mid and
senior level; development planners and
practitioners in and outside the college.
Research and training programs are conducted,
monitored and evaluated by Research Committee
within the CeDS.
CeDS has started publishing “Development
Journal” including the research articles of
students, faculty and development professionals. |

Track Records
The college has achieved 100% pass record at
all its final passing out examinations. BDevS
results have been excellent not only in pass
percentage, but also in scoring CGPA above 3.0.
Five batches of the students have already
graduated from t6his college and are engaged
either in development organization or enrolled
in Masters level program within and outside the
country and the college is proud of their
outstanding performances wherever they are
working and studying. Five of our students from
each batch have received Mahendra Bidya
Bhushan award. On the basis of best-adjudged
research proposals, five of our students in the
last year have received research grant from WWF,
MOPST, WTLCP, MOLT, MEDEP and Heifer International.
Recently, Centre for Development Studies (CeDS)
has developed a policy of internship program
with various institutions having prolonged
experience in development sectors. In this
context, Kaushila Foundation for Peace and
Innovative Initiatives has been offering
internship opportunities to four of the
students of National College. |
